Thousands of great Scripts are never made because filmmakers struggle to find the right collaborators. Just Make Films exists to change that.
What is Just Make Films?
Just Make Films is a collaborative filmmaking community where people come together to make films. The goal is simple: stop waiting, start making films! Pitch your own Scripts, or discover Scripts that excite you, collaborate with like-minded folks, and make film magic happen!
Who is it for?
It is for anyone interested in filmmaking. Writers, directors, actors, cinematographers, editors, musicians, sound designers, VFX artists, and anyone who wants to learn and contribute to the process of making films are welcome.
Is Just Make Films a Production House?
No. Just Make Films is a community and collaboration platform. Projects are created and driven by community members themselves. The platform exists to help people find each other and make films together.
How does it work?
Members pitch projects along with their requirements. Other members can express interest in projects they want to be part of. Once enough people come together, the team connects, plans the production, shoots the film, completes post-production, and releases it.
How do I become a member?
Please apply through the link at the bottom of the page. Once membership is approved, you will get access to the community platform.
Is there a fee?
No! Just Make Films is free! The only things expected from members are genuine interest, respect for others, and commitment of time and effort towards projects they choose to participate in.
Will I be compensated for my participation?
Just Make Films is a collaborative filmmaking community, not a production company or employment platform. Participation is voluntary. The objective is to collaborate, learn, create, and grow through actual filmmaking. Any credits, recognition, revenue, or opportunities generated from a project belong to the collaborators involved and should be discussed transparently within the team.
I don't have any experience.
That's okay. Filmmaking is a craft learned through practice. You do not need prior experience to participate. Every filmmaker starts somewhere. What matters is your willingness to learn, collaborate, and contribute.
Is a Script mandatory?
Yes. Every project must have a Script before it is pitched. The platform is designed around helping stories move from Script to Screen. If you have an idea, but not a Script, please collaborate with a writer and prepare the Script before pitching.
Who can pitch?
Any member of the community can pitch a project. If you have a Script, just pitch it!
What else should I provide apart from the Script?
A good pitch should include as much practical information as possible: cast requirements, crew requirements, equipment needs, locations, permissions, expected schedule, and any other details required to understand the project.
What kind of Scripts can be pitched?
Any genre or style is welcome. However, projects should be practical for an independent filmmaking community. Scripts that can be made with limited resources and enthusiastic collaborators are encouraged.
Is there a limit to the duration of the Scripts?
While there is no strict limit, please keep in mind that shorter films are generally easier to execute in a collaborative independent filmmaking environment. Feature-length Scripts or projects requiring large resources may be difficult to coordinate and complete within the community model.
I liked a project. What do I do now?
Express your interest in the project. The person who pitched the project will review interested members and coordinate the next steps, including discussions, planning, and team formation.
I see no comments on projects. Where are we discussing?
Projects intentionally do not have public comments or discussions. The platform is meant for discovering and organizing projects, not becoming another discussion forum. Discussions happen through WhatsApp Groups.
WhatsApp Groups?
Once a project has enough interested members and moves forward, a dedicated WhatsApp Group will be created specifically for that project. It will be used for discussions, coordination, rehearsals, production planning, shoots, post-production, release, and everything required to complete the film. Once the project finishes, the WhatsApp Group may be disbanded if it no longer serves a purpose. However, if collaborators choose to continue working together, the group may be retained.
I am not sure if I can commit. What should I do?
A smaller number of committed people is better than a larger number of uncertain participants. It is okay to express interest and communicate your uncertainty. However, once you confirm your commitment, others will depend on you. Backing out without a valid reason can jeopardize the entire project, which is not welcome.
Is expressing interest a commitment?
No. Expressing interest only indicates that you are interested in exploring the project. Commitment begins only when you confirm your participation with the project team. However, once committed, please honor that commitment.
What if interest exceeds demand for a project?
The person who pitched the project will decide the final team based on the requirements of the project. Expressing interest does not guarantee participation.
What if people don't turn up for a project?
Unexpected situations happen and genuine emergencies are understandable. However, repeatedly committing to projects and failing to honor those commitments affects everyone involved and may result in removal from the community.
How long will a project remain active without interest?
Projects remain active for 30 days. If a project does not receive sufficient interest during this period, it will expire automatically. The creator may revise and pitch it again after a cooling-off period of two months.
What if someone steals my Script?
Please pitch only those Scripts which you are comfortable sharing with the community. Just Make Films cannot guarantee protection against misuse of publicly shared material. As a general practice, maintain your own records of your work. For example, you may email yourself a copy of your Script before sharing it publicly.
Why is there an Application to become a member?
Because Just Make Films is not intended to be an open directory or another casual online group. The application helps ensure that people joining the community have genuine interest in filmmaking and collaboration. The application also helps us understand what your expectations are from the community, and how we can improve the community further.
Why do you need my Phone Number and Email to become a member?
Your email is required for platform access and for online meetups. Your phone number is needed for WhatsApp, to help enable project coordination when required, especially after teams are formed. Your information will only be used for community-related communication.
Can I bring my friends?
Yes. If your friends are genuinely interested in filmmaking! Every member should go through the same application process so that everyone joining will maintain the integrity of the community.
Can I join just to observe?
The community is built around participation. While you don't need to immediately join a project, members are expected to eventually contribute through skills, collaboration, or support. Inactive members may be removed from the community periodically, after due communication, to preserve an active and engaged community.
Why are you doing this?
Because we don't want to run alone. Let's run together! The goal is to create a space where people can find collaborators, make projects consistently, learn from each other, and build a community through actual work.
